You can drive on the beach north all the way to Binningup if the tides are right. The track is still only one vehicle width so you might have to yield to on-coming traffic from time to time by ducking into a slot at trackside. Most beaches have washouts caused by creeks cutting across the beach. There are no major towns a reasonable distance from the Washpool, but limited supplies and fuel can be had at Tabulam. This will take you up a sandy track, along the banks of the Creek and youll pop out on the bottom end of Little Lagoon. Both are lengthy (suggested 8 hour return for 24 kilometres distance) and probably deserve an overnight campout with your pup tent. Camping is permitted at the waterholes (permit required). Belvidere is a great beach just north of Bunbury, with camping facilities near Leschenaulta inlet. After a lot of rain, this trackbecomes considerably more difficult to do. Its a big challenge for the most skilful 4WDrivers. Weve spent a fair bit of time at Shark Bay in the past, and had a heap of fun exploring. Its about 12km of driving on gravel or sand, so not a massive distance. If youve got a few more days, Fraser Island makes for the ultimate Hervey Bay 4WD trip extension! Very easy for first timers and can be accessible by two wheel drive vehicles as well. 4WDs are the only vehicles permitted to drive on Fraser Island, so if you're planning on driving your own vehicle, then you should double-check your vehicle meets the requirements. The 4WD interest starts again in earnest via Yangie Bay where the first official formal campsite is located, recently renovated and complete with stunning views and facilities limited to long-drop toilets, some shelter pavilions and walks around the bay's shoreline. Meanwhile back on the 4WD trail the track swings north hugging the coast in places and past Point Longnose and running in and out of the dunes before hitting the beach proper at Seven Mile Beach. Heading north to the tip of the peninsula the track goes inland once more past Phantom Cove (isnt that a great name) and Point Burgess, en-route to The Pool, the last of the remote campsites in the park.
